I am a therapist who loves working with people—all kinds of people, different ages, places, and ways of being in the world. My background includes working with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan and in many different relational configurations.
As a teacher and school counselor, I learned how much children and teens struggle to adapt to life and its stressors. Meeting their parents taught me how much parents and caregivers struggle with their own stressors while they are trying to help their children. I became a couple & family therapist so I could work with people of all ages.
My goal is to empower you to take personal accountability for your individual and relational decisions. I see individuals, couples, and families in a flexible structure which focuses on here-and-now discussions and processes. I am straight but not narrow, welcoming non-traditional couples and families.
My work is trauma-informed and attachment-oriented. Trauma strains relationships and attachment bonds help sort out the conflicts. Sessions will be structured as needed to channel discussions and interactions so they are helpful.
I am a Registered Play Therapist and when I see families with young children I use play-based interventions which involve parents and siblings.
It’s easy to be your best self when things are calm. My work begins when things are not calm and no one feels at their best. I believe in relational commitment, relational ethics, and working to repair relationships that all parties want to heal.
More About Laura
Laura is a lifelong knitter, being taught to knit by her grandmother at the age of 4. Reflecting the close relationship she had with her grandparents, Laura focuses her charity knitting on items for elders, and coordinates a charity blanket campaign each spring. When not knitting, she is spoiling her two visually-impaired housecats, spending time with her father, and making road trips through the US southwest. Laura and her spouse have been in a long-distance relationship for more than 30 years.
